Sandbag Lifts training

Prepare for Sandbag Lifts as one part of the continuous Combat Field Test (CFT) sequence.

Official Army guidance

Use the current event protocol and local test-control instructions for administration. The reference below describes the event; it is not a substitute for the official directive.

What it tests

Repeated full-body power, lifting mechanics, and fatigue management.

Test setup

Start with 16 40-pound sandbags on the ground immediately in front of a 65-inch platform.

How it is performed

Pick up and place all 16 sandbags onto the platform. The event is not complete until all 16 sandbags are securely on the platform, then move to the next event after grader clearance.

What counts

Sixteen completed lifts with the prescribed bag and platform.

Result recorded

Move to the next event after grader clearance.

Attempts / termination

Complete all 16 lifts before moving on. An inability to complete the event terminates the test and records a failure.

Official guidance is controlling; ArmyFitHub training suggestions are editorial preparation guidance.

ArmyFitHub Training Guidance

Use these practice ideas to build repeatable movement quality. They do not change the Army test standard.

Coaching focus

Train a repeatable scoop, brace, and extension so each lift costs as little energy as possible.

Useful practice

  • Light-to-moderate sandbag cleans
  • Platform lift clusters
  • Hinge and bracing practice

Progression

Build total quality lifts across small sets before rehearsing the full repetition count.

Test-day transition

Use a consistent side and hand position, breathe between lifts, and protect the transition to the carry.

Practice setup

  • Test-appropriate running shoes
  • Event equipment and test surface controlled by the unit
