CFT / Training / Run 1

1-Mile Run training

Prepare for 1-Mile Run as one part of the continuous Combat Field Test (CFT) sequence.

Official Army guidance

Use the current event protocol and local test-control instructions for administration. The reference below describes the event; it is not a substitute for the official directive.

What it tests

Aerobic endurance and the ability to establish a sustainable opening pace.

Test setup

Start the first one-mile run as the opening event of the continuous CFT sequence.

How it is performed

Run one mile, then move to the next event after grader clearance.

What counts

Completion of the one-mile distance in the official sequence.

Result recorded

Move to the next event after grader clearance.

Attempts / termination

No separate event score is recorded; follow the current unit test-control instructions.

Official guidance is controlling; ArmyFitHub training suggestions are editorial preparation guidance.

ArmyFitHub Training Guidance

Use these practice ideas to build repeatable movement quality. They do not change the Army test standard.

Coaching focus

Practice controlled starts and learn the pace that leaves you ready for the work that follows.

Useful practice

  • Easy aerobic runs with a relaxed first half
  • Short controlled pickups after a warm-up
  • Occasional run-after-strength sessions

Progression

Add volume first, then add small pace changes while keeping the opening mile repeatable.

Test-day transition

Treat the first mile as the opening leg of a continuous test, not a standalone time trial.

Practice setup

  • Test-appropriate running shoes
  • Event equipment and test surface controlled by the unit
