Dead-Stop Push-Ups training

Prepare for Dead-Stop Push-Ups as one part of the continuous Combat Field Test (CFT) sequence.

Official Army guidance

Use the current event protocol and local test-control instructions for administration. The reference below describes the event; it is not a substitute for the official directive.

What it tests

Upper-body pressing endurance and control through the dead-stop position.

Test setup

Use the official dead-stop push-up position and wait for the required reset between repetitions.

How it is performed

Complete 30 dead-stop push-ups, then move to the next event after grader clearance.

What counts

Thirty repetitions performed to the current test standard.

Result recorded

Move to the next event after grader clearance.

Attempts / termination

The directive requires the event to be completed; inability to complete an event terminates the CFT.

Official guidance is controlling; ArmyFitHub training suggestions are editorial preparation guidance.

ArmyFitHub Training Guidance

Use these practice ideas to build repeatable movement quality. They do not change the Army test standard.

Coaching focus

Own the bottom position, reset cleanly, and build repeatable sets instead of chasing rushed repetitions.

Useful practice

  • Paused push-ups
  • Submaximal density sets
  • Scapular and trunk-control work

Progression

Increase quality repetitions before reducing rest; stop a set when the required position changes.

Test-day transition

Use the same hand and trunk position you practiced so the dead-stop standard is automatic.

Practice setup

  • Test-appropriate running shoes
  • Event equipment and test surface controlled by the unit
